Classic 1970s TV: The shows that made the family tune in

Imagine a family, all sitting around the TV, possibly the only TV in the house. Dad is holding the remote control, which everyone refers to as “the clicker.” The remote has only two functions. One of the functions turns the TV off and on. The other changes the channels, all 7 or 8 of them, with a click of a button. Now try to imagine what that family is watching. Are you imagining them watching one of the classic TV shows from the 1970’s? In the 1970s most families had one, maybe two televisions in the house, and the second television was usually stashed away in mom and dad’s room where they could watch the classic shows that the kids couldn’t watch yet like Maude or Soap. The televisions in the house might have even shown the programs in black and white. What kept families glued to these televisions that had only a handful of channels, an ancient clicker, and frequently no color? The classic TV shows from the 1970s, of course. There were so many family-friendly shows in a variety

Buick LaCrosse: Bridging the Generation Gap

Made available in three trim levels that ranges from the CX to the CXS, the Buick LaCrosse sports four doors and has the capacity to take in a maximum of six passengers in its cabin. It is a luxury sedan from Buick. Upon its introduction, this sedan holds a 3.8 liter V6 engine as standard. This can take up to 20 mpg during city driving and some 30 mpg while on the highway. The Buick LaCrosse is known and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. This vehicle has actually replaced two Buick cars in the market which were the Buick Century and the Buick Regal. Buick has created and crafted the Buick LaCrosse so as to bridge the gap between the old generation and the newer and younger generation. This is specifically due to the facts that most owners of Buicks were of the older generations with the average age around 68 years old. With the Buick LaCrosse, the company intends to also target a lower age bracket. This is due to this sedan’s newer, fresher, and younger design and features. Thi

An introduction to collecting car brochures

Ever since the first car was made manufacturers and tuners have been producing literature to promote their products. One of the most interesting aspects of collecting auto brochures is that they provide a unique social history of the time they were produced. For example if you have a brochure for a Volkswagen Beetle from the 1960's you will find information about the time in which it was produced like hairstyles, clothing and popular decor of the time. Add to this, the fact that most brochures can be bought inexpensively and take up little space to store (unless you get obsessed!) you have the basis for a popular and rewarding hobby. However, as with all collecting there are many ways (especially as a beginner) that you can come "unstuck" and end up spending your hard earned money on inferior, fake or incomplete brochures. Over the coming weeks, amongst other things I will cover the purchase, safe-keeping and suggested themes for brochure collections and provide

6 Pocket Rockets!

Just because your car is small, doesn’t mean that it has to be slow. In fact, some of the fastest cars on the road today are subcompacts. How so? Because their owners have modified them to the point where they can squeeze out additional horsepower and acceleration. Let’s take a look at six cars that qualify as genuine “pocket rockets.” For the sake of argument, here are some ground rules for a pocket rocket: The car must be a compact or smaller. The engine must be normally aspirated; no turbo charged cars – four cylinders only. New versions of the car must all retail for less than $20,000. The following six cars all qualify as pocket rockets when each of the above stipulations has been met: Dodge Neon; Ford Focus; Honda Civic ; Scion tC; Subaru Impreza; and Volkswagen Golf. Unfortunately, the Mitsubishi Eclipse retails for just above $20,000 so it does not qualify. Besides, it looks too much like a sports car; we are only examining those vehicles that are somewhat p
